Classic TT event held on the Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is the setting for the twice-yearly Classic TT (Tourist Trophy) event, the most recent of which took place at the end of August 2014. BMW Group Classic attended the event, displaying a number of BMW motorbikes at an exhibition held at the Grandstand. Bikes on show included a 1929 BMW R 63, a BMW R 5 from 1936, and a BMW RS 54 from 1954.

BMW also displayed a new BMW R nineT, the newest series-produced model from the company. The R nineT features a design that puts emphasis on only the essential features of the machine, coupled with a boxer engine in a combination that BMW has excelled at for over 90 years.

Three BMW bikes also took part in the event's legendary Lap of Honour. One of these, the supercharged BMW 255, achieved victory in the event 75 years ago when it was ridden by Georg Meier. In the 2014 event it was ridden by his nephew, Wolfgang Meier.

According to ferry operators, the festival brought the highest number of visitors to the island in a decade. There was also an 11 percent rise in the number of motorbikes brought to the event.
