First sightings of the next-generation Hyundai i20

14th July 2014

In advance of the official launch scheduled at the Paris Motor Show in October, the new-generation Hyundai i20 has been seen on the road for the first time.

The model will be positioned as a direct rival to the Volkswagen Polo, Kia Rio and Ford Fiesta. As the second generation version of the i20, it’s widely expected to be more powerful and capable.

Photos from the test runs show that the i20 is in the late stages of development – definitely on track for the launch, which should reassure Hyundai fans. The five-seat model should arrive with two-tone upholstery and upgraded technologies and infotainment systems. Many of the energetic petrol and diesel engines from the outgoing i20 should be carried over, and new options are likely to join the range.

Several new vehicles from Hyundai have been spied in road tests over recent weeks, confirming the manufacturer’s push to revamp the model range and attract a larger market share. In line with the facelifted i30 and i40, the newest i20 will have a look and front face much more similar to the attractive new i10.

Following display in Paris, the Hyundai i20 will be released in the UK by the end of the year. A high-performance ‘N’ version of the car is anticipated to arrive in 2015.
