Land Rover Supply Fleet of Vehicles for the Rugby World Cup

As Official Sponsors of this year’s Rugby World Cup, Land Rover has delivered a fleet of 450 vehicles to transport officials and staff to and from matches.

A fleet of Land Rover vehicles including Discovery Sports, Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover will be provided during the duration of the 44-day competition. The vehicles are expected to cover around 650,000 miles during this time, equivalent to 26 trips around the world. The new Discovery Sport which is the world most versatile and capable SUV could carry all 920 players and 1,000 team staff in only 289 vehicles thanks to its flexible 5+2 seating.

The Rugby World Cup which is being hosted by England will kick off on Friday 18th September at Twickenham in London where hosts England will take on Fiji. There will be 20 countries competing for the famous Webb Ellis Cup which was last won by New Zealand in 2011.  All four UK nations will be taking part in this year’s cup, with England and Wales also being placed in the same group.

To mark the hand-over of the final vehicle and celebrate its support of the event, Land Rover created a unique installation using 450 Land Rover keys – one for every vehicle on the fleet ¬– suspended in the shape of a rugby ball.

Land Rover, Fleet and Business General Manager, UK Jon Wackett said: “We are proud and excited to be supporting Rugby World Cup 2015 as the tournament returns to the UK. Discovery Sport is the perfect vehicle to lead the fleet as its compact dimensions, flexible 5+2 seating and advanced connectivity features provide versatility and capability in equal measure.”

The Rugby World Cup is the biggest event on the sporting calendar this year, with a global audience of over four billion watching in 200 countries around the world.
