The Nissan Micra is easy to drive with light steering and good visibility. It is also cheap to run and has low emissions.
The 3-cylinder 97 bhp DIG S unit is supercharged and is noticeably stronger than the standard 1.2. The engine has been designed to deliver performance, but also excellent fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The car comes with a five-speed manual gearbox or an automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Nissan Micra will do 68.9 mpg (combined) with CO2 emissions of 95 g/km (based on Visia manual transmission). The DIG-S versions of the Nissan Micra are fitted with a stop/start system that saves energy by stopping the engine when the car is idling. The DIG-S version is more responsive than the standard Nissan Micra accelerating from 0-62 mph in 11.2 seconds, whilst the standard engine will do 0-62 mph in 13.7 seconds.
The Nissan Micra has excellent visibility due to its large windows and slim pillars. The steering wheel adjusts for height and on higher spec models the seat height can be adjusted. Driver armrests have been added to increase comfort on longer journeys. Despite being smaller than many other superminis the Nissan Micra has plenty of space. In the front there are handy storage areas for small items. Passengers in the front and back will find that there is plenty of room to sit comfortably. The boot space is limited, but the higher spec models have split-folding rear seats. Basic models have Bluetooth connectivity. Higher spec models have air conditioning, alloy wheels and driver seat height adjustment. The mid-spec Acenta comes with electric door mirrors and rear folding seats. The Kuro/Shiro model comes with additional features such as heated front seats, climate control, rear parking sensors and parking slot measurement. The Tekna models have satnav, parking sensors, automatic wipers and lights, electric folding mirrors, cruise control and speed limit warning.
All of the models have a stability control system, which monitors and manages grip and traction for safer driving and emergency brake assistance to prevent the wheels from locking during extreme braking. There is also a seat belt reminder in all models. Front, side and curtain airbags protect the car's occupants if it is involved in an accident. The Nissan Micra received a four-star in the Euro NACP crash tests.
For a perfect small car, the new Nissan Micra is charming, efficient and cheap to run. Quirky exterior styling, reliable engines and well controlled at speed, the Nissan Micra comprises plenty of standard kit including electric front windows, remote central locking and Nissan's exclusive Connect System.
