The new Peugeot RCZ is a different breed of automotive ingenuity. Thanks to the choice of advanced engines, the RCZ is both powerful and economical. Inside and out this model breathes sophistication; premium materials and a seamless designed cabin ensure you know your somewhere special. For an elegant, innovatively crafted car like this, the impression is everything.
One of the companies most dramatic looking models, perhaps its most noticeable feature is the double bubble roof, which is designed to channel water off the roof, down the rear screen and onto the ground; it actually works very well. The design was inspired by the company's Le Mans sports prototype racing cars and with the RCZ, Peugeot has succeeded in combining driveability and power in a good-looking car.
The Peugeot RCZ has a snug cabin with sporty seats that hold the driver in place when cornering. The driving position is excellent and tall drivers will appreciate the adjustable steering wheel. The interior is similar to Peugeot's 308 and the materials and workmanship are high quality. Room for rear passengers is a little limited, but for a coupe the boot is fairly large.
Standard equipment includes electric and heated front seats, leather upholstery, front parking sensors, car mats, automatic lights, auto dipping door mirrors, automatic windscreen wipers, 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic approach lighting and sports leather front seats. Extras include JBL audio pack, Peugeot Connect Media Navigation an interior sports kit.
The fastest of the RCZ models is the 200 bhp 1.6 turbo-charged model. The turbo-charged four-cylinder engine delivers 200 bhp and will take the car from 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds. It has a top speed of 146 mph and whilst this is slightly slower than the Audi TT, the RCZ has lower emissions. The six-speed short-shift manual gearbox is excellent, though there is also an automatic option.
The Peugeot RCZ is fun to drive; it feels agile, smooth and substantial. The steering is responsive and the car grips the road well, handling challenging roads with ease. The active rear spoiler improves the car's aerodynamics and can be manually or automatically deployed by the driver. The 200 bhp model has a lower anti roll bar and wide front track, allowing it to corner more efficiently than less sporty models.
The model has driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags, electronic brake force distribution, stability control, emergency braking assistance, immobiliser, locking wheel bolts and an alarm. Although the car has not been Euro NCAP tested, Peugeot's other models have all performed well and the Peugeot RCZ is unlikely to be the exception.
