Peugeot tests a stronger version of the 308 hatchback

A new and more powerful edition of the Peugeot 308 has been spied on test runs. The step forward in developments with the car indicates that it could receive an official unveiling later in the year.

Fans of the brand were already expecting a dynamic vehicle of this kind, as Peugeot had previously confirmed an intention to create at least one new performance car in the 308 line-up. This new focus was announced at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the launch of the 308 R concept.

The manufacturer's compact and family-friendly hatchback receives sporty styling, with new twin exhaust pipes and fresh alloy wheel designs. It also sits lower to the ground than the previous 308 and appears to run in front-wheel drive.

The more potent engine generating the car's increased power has yet to be confirmed, but the new version will definitely enter with more might and torque. Rumours around the power system include the possibility of the 197bhp 1.6-litre engine being carried over from the 208 GTi.

It's anticipated that the more powerful 308 could appear on the Peugeot stand during the 2014 Paris Motor Show, which will take place in October. Excited motorists don't have long to wait for more details on this tantalising car.
