– Renault's high-performance division – has revealed the incredible new
R.S. 01 racing car at the Moscow Motor Show. The potent vehicle will
compete in the Renaultsport Trophy from 2015, part of the manufacturer's
World Series event.
The model is not based on any of the French brand's existing production cars, but does share similarities with the DeZir all-electric concept seen in 2010. Moreover, Renault Sport Technologies CEO Patrice Ratti has described the R.S. 01 as “a marriage between the beauty of Renault DeZir and the performance of Formula Renault 3.5."
Beautiful it certainly is, with a low and sleek build including a gently curved roofline that stretches from the middle of the car all the way to a huge rear wing. Like the wing, the contoured rear diffuser aids downforce, and it sits below twin exhausts and stylish LED tail lights.
Beneath the body is a lightweight carbon fibre tub enclosed within a protective steel roll cage, while double wishbone suspension, Ohlins dampers and 380mm carbon disc brakes also feature. Power is delivered via a 3.8-litre V6 twin turbo engine, which produces a superb 493bhp. With all this power and a weight of just 1.1 tonnes, the R.S. 01 will reach speeds beyond 186mph.
The winner of the Renaultsport Trophy Pro-Am event will have the chance to gain a rookie test with the official Nismo team at the Japanese Super GT event. The winner of this Am category could then race at the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hour competition, one of the most famous in motorsport.
