Range
The Toyota Avensis attracts a broad market appealing to both families and companies eager to include it to their fleets. In order to meet the needs of the market, Toyota has produced several different versions of the Avensis.
The entry level Toyota Avensis is the T2. The T2 comes with 16-inch steel wheels and other features including a trip computer, an outside temperature display, a six-speaker CD player and radio and 60/40 split seats.
The Avensis TR model offers 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlights and front fog lights. Other features include an improved Bluetooth compatible CD entertainment system, electric operated rear windows, electric back support and air conditioning with dual zone climate control.
The T4 offers even more in-car luxury. This includes leather electric adjustable seats complete with memory settings, heated front seats and power folding door mirrors, which all come as standard.
Top of the Toyota Avensis Range is the T Spirit. This includes all the T4 has to offer with the addition of 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof (for the estate), Bi-Xenon headlights and in-car entertainment, which includes an 11-speaker sound system. Satnav is available as an added option.
Engines and performance
There are five engines available for the Toyota Avensis range, three petrol and two diesel.
The 1.6 V-Matic can go from standing to 60mph in 10.4 seconds and produces 132 bhp. Top speed is an impressive 124mph. Petrol consumption averages 43.5 mpg, while CO2 emissions are 152g per km.
For increased power, there is the 1.8 V-Matic, capable of producing 146 bhp. Among the models using this powerplant is the T4, and the 1.6 can propel it from zero to 60 in 9.4 seconds. The mpg is the same as the 1.6 at 43.5, but emissions with this engine are 154g/km.
The most powerful Avensis engine is the 2.0 V-Matic, which can push a car to 127 mph and has acceleration from zero to 60 in just 9 seconds. The 2.0 is reasonably fuel efficient, averaging just short of 41 mpg, and C02 emissions with this engine are 163g/km.

The most popular of the Toyota Avensis range are powered by the 2.0 DV-D diesel engines. This engine is turbo-charged and pumps out 126 bhp. Fuel consumption is a reasonable 55.4 mpg, while emissions for CO2 are limited to 149g/km. As for performance, this engine produces a top speed of 124 mph and can power a car from zero to 60 in 9.7 seconds.
Less popular but more powerful is the 2.2 DV-D, produced in two power levels, 150 and 180 bhp. The T Spirit is produced only with the 2.2.
