Vauxhall confirms a new Corsa VXR

Vauxhall has announced that a potent VXR version of its Corsa supermini will arrive in 2015, as the manufacturer looks to boost the model's appeal to motorists desiring greater pulling power.

Developments to the vehicle are well underway, and it is expected to boast a more muscular engine when compared to its rivals, the Ford Fiesta ST and Renaultsport Clio 200.

Vauxhall's small car brand manager Ian Mitchell told Auto Express: “We'd like to do one, there's such a following for it we'd be crazy not to do it, there's definitely a strong case. You might be seeing something next year."

The Fiesta ST's 180bhp engine is likely to be trumped by a 197bhp version of the 1.6-litre direct-injection turbo unit fitted to the Vauxhall Cascada convertible, and there is the possibility to introduce models with even greater power.

The current-generation Corsa enjoyed various VXR iterations, topped by a rapid 202bhp Clubsport edition that included performance Brembo brakes, a Remus sports exhaust and a limited slip front differential. A similarly rapid example of the all-new Corsa, which is released shortly, can therefore be anticipated in the future.

Be among the first to test drive the all-new Corsa when it arrives at Lookers Vauxhall across Liverpool, Birmingham, Wirral and Cheshire. Enquire soon for full details on the compact hatchback.
