Renaultsport developing Dacia Sandero RS for key markets
2nd September 2014
A new Dacia Sandero RS is being launched in 2015, bringing a high-performance hatchback option to drivers outside of western Europe.
The idea of the model was first generated in hyper-realistic concept images from French designer Khalil. The two Photoshop pictures gave fans an almost-real insight into how the Sandero RS might be designed.
Now, a real version is in development by Dacia’s umbrella brand Renault. The Renaultsport arm of the manufacturer is taking on the project, and team leaders confirmed progress on the car just before the recent Moscow Motor Show opened.
The aim with the model is to build on the popularity of Renaultsport in Brazil, Russia and other non-European markets. These countries receive Dacia models badged with Renault branding.
A new engine has also been suggested for the RS, giving it even more individuality compared to the rest of the range. Russian motorists enjoy the strong power of a 101bhp 1.6-litre option at present, and it’s all but certain that the next-generation engine will generate even stronger performance.
The Dacia cars available here in the UK include the original Sandero and the Sandero Stepway. You can discover every current model and arrange your test drive with the team at Charles Hurst Dacia in Belfast, Newtownards and Chimney Corner Mallusk.
