A first drive of the Renaultsport Mégane 275 Trophy

UK motorists have long awaited more details on the newest Renaultsport Mégane 275 Trophy – and Autocar has now published their first drive review.

The car is Renault's flagship high-performance hot hatchback, and returns with significant upgrades to ensure it remains competitive in an increasingly populated category. It now sports an eye-catching front bumper insert, anti-roll bars as part of the exclusive 'Cup pack', and an Akrapovič titanium exhaust pipe system.

Changes in the cabin bring infotainment directly to the Alcantara-covered steering wheel, with data and controls provided right there for the driver. The equipment list now incorporates a sat nav system and dual-zone climate control, and at the rear of the vehicle the difference can be seen in the increased luggage space.

A 2.0-litre turbo engine previously used within the Mégane range has been precisely re-engineered for use in the Mégane 275 Trophy. Power has been boosted by 10bhp to a thrilling 271bhp, and 0-60mph is accomplished in no more than six seconds. Torque is higher, and the Cup pack also includes stiffer springs, new dampers and a limited-slip differential.

As Autocar states, the Trophy claims “purity of focus, outright pace and sheer engagement" in motion. The fine-tuning of the model doesn't go without comment: “the resulting experience when driven at speed is utterly intoxicating".
