Global sales figures for Renault in 2014 up by almost five percent

On top of Renault's continued push for stronger European sales, the manufacturer has just posted a 4.7 percent global sales increase for the first half of 2014. The year-on-year rise has been driven by an emphasis on Europe and the launch of several new vehicles.

The manufacturer's combined car and commercial vehicle sales total for the year to date has reached an impressive 1.37 million units. In the majority of markets the charge is being led by the new Captur compact SUV. Under the umbrella Renault brand, Romanian carmaker Dacia has enjoyed strong sales in just a short period since launch – particularly for the Sandero and Duster models.

Europe is Renault's focus in 2014, and the French manufacturer has made particular headway in its home country. In the face of a slow economic recovery, sales of Renault vehicles in France over the past six months – particularly the Captur – have been very encouraging.

The compact crossover is available here in the UK, and has already made its mark with a What Car? best in segment award. In Euro NCAP safety testing it received high scores across the board, demonstrating its suitability for solo, family and group motoring.
