has revealed its intention to replace the popular Espace MPV with an
all-new MPV next year. 2015 will herald Renault's stronger focus on the
premium large vehicle sector, thanks to the range-topping MPV.
Featuring seven seats, the flagship new MPV will be based on the Initiale Paris concept revealed in September 2013. Renault said at the time that the concept represented “prestige, but without excess. Renault is fully expressing its intention to carve out its rightful place in the premium segment. It embodies Renault's vision of premium cars".
Although no name or specifications have yet been announced by the French marque, it is likely to be based on a new Renault-Nissan design platform. Industry insiders speculate that the predominant powertrain will be a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, coupled to an automatic gearbox operated by push buttons.
Inside the cockpit, the premium edition of the car is expected to feature contemporary wood and aluminium trim and a focal glass roof to create a sense of space and light within the cabin. Renault has revealed that it is developing class-leading comfortable seats which may feature in the vehicle, as well as a high end Bose-engineered surround sound system.
