Renault Scoops Two Awards at the 2014 Green Apple Awards in London

13th November 2014

French automakers Renault were commended again for their environmentally friendly cars this week at the 2014 Green Apple Awards. This year’s ceremony was held at the Houses of Parliament in London and is now the fourth year the Awards have taken place. Renault has scooped awards for their eco-friendly vehicles for three consecutive years.

The Renault Kangoo Z.E electric van was awarded the Green Apple Automotive Industry Bronze Award whilst the popular Renault Clio was Runner Up in the Small Family Cars category. The Kangoo Z.E was praised for being the markets first all-electric light commercial vehicle, which has zero tailpipe emissions, can be charged in 6-8 hours and is inexpensive to run. The zero emissions on the Kangoo Z.E means there is no road tax to pay and charging can cost as little as £3 per 100 mile range. The Clio which is now in its stylish fourth generation was acclaimed for its range of petrol and diesel engines that emit CO2 emissions of as low as 83g/km and with fuel consumption as low as 88.3 mpg.

This year’s awards follow on from the success of last year when the electric Renault Zoe won the Overall Winner prize, as well as being named Best Small Family Car. In 2012 the Green Organisation applauded Renault for their commitment to zero emissions motoring.

The awards which take place annually were organised by Midlands-based The Green Organisation and were judged by members of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers. Speaking of Renaults continued commitment to producing environmentally friendly cars such as the Kangoo Z.E a spokesperson for The Green Organisation said “The Renault Kangoo Z.E. Van was the market’s first all-electric light commercial vehicle. This purpose-built van has zero tailpipe emissions, is cheap to run and easy to charge. It has instant torque, making it rather quick – but at the same time very quiet and smooth to drive.”

While the Midland Group of Motoring Writers commented on the Clio saying “Good looks combine with an extremely frugal and fun to drive diesel engine to put the Clio near the top of anyone’s list.”
