Vauxhall's Astra GTC set to receive a quieter diesel engine

Vauxhall has continued to refine its engine line-up for greater efficiency and lower emissions, and is set to fit its Astra GTC with a new quieter diesel unit. The sports-inspired model will have its 1.7-litre CDTi unit replaced by a new 'whisper' 1.6-litre CDTi, which made its first appearance in the Zafira Tourer in 2013.

With the new powertrain, the Astra GTC will be boosted by an extra 6bhp, taking it to 134bhp overall, as well as an additional 20Nm of torque. Sending this power to the road will be an improved six-speed manual gearbox – and with the 'whisper' engine, this will be done without excessive engine roar. Output is now even more impressive with up to 68.9mpg possible, and CO 2 emissions start at just 104g/km, ensuring that motorists can still strongly feel the GTC's potential and capabilities.

“We are delighted to see the 1.6-litre 'Whisper Diesel' introduced into our flagship GTC model," commented Stuart Harris, Vauxhall's head of carline brand.

“The new 1.6-litre engine is a result of significant investment and provides an exceptional blend of performance, refinement and economy."

The Astra GTC featuring the new engine is available with Sport, Limited Edition and SRI trim grades, and each includes start/stop system and brake energy recuperation as standard to enable such impressive performance figures.
