Your vehicle’s timing belt (also known as the cambelt) is a critical component that connects and controls the timing and operation of many of the engine's major internal parts such as the camshaft, crankshaft and valves.

The cambelt ensures that the camshaft and crankshaft rotate in time with each other: if they don’t the result could be engine failure – costing £000s to repair. Dacia recommends that when changing the cambelt you change roller pulleys, tensioner and the water pump. The water pump is located behind the cambelt so Dacia recommend replacing the water pump at the same time as the cambelt – to save you paying for all the parts and labour costs again should the water pump leak and need replacement at a later stage.

At Charles Hurst Dacia we have worked very hard to offer great value for money, peace of mind and reassurance for reliability and resale value of your Dacia car. To book your vehicle in please click below or call 02890 383535 today!

Getting a cambelt (also known as a timing belt) replacement is essential for the maintenance and longevity of your vehicle's engine. The cambelt is a crucial component that synchronizes the rotation of the engine's crankshaft and camshaft, ensuring that the engine's valves open and close at the correct times in relation to the piston movements. This synchronization is necessary for the engine to operate smoothly and efficiently.

Here are a few reasons why getting a cambelt replacement is important:

- Prevent Catastrophic Engine Failure: If the cambelt breaks while the engine is running, it can lead to catastrophic engine failure. The pistons and valves can collide, causing significant damage to the engine. Repairing this kind of damage is often very costly and may require engine replacement in severe cases.

- Routine Maintenance: Cambelts are made of rubber, which can degrade over time due to factors like heat, oil exposure, and general wear and tear. Most manufacturers recommend changing the cambelt at a certain mileage or time interval, usually around 60,000 to 100,000 miles or every 5-7 years, whichever comes first. Regular replacement helps prevent belt deterioration and the associated risks.

- Maintain Engine Performance: A properly functioning cambelt ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the precise intervals required for optimal combustion. If the cambelt is worn or stretched, the engine's timing can be affected, leading to reduced power, poor fuel efficiency, and rough idling.

- Avoid Inconvenience: A cambelt failure can leave you stranded on the road and require immediate towing. This can be inconvenient and potentially dangerous, especially if it happens in traffic or in an unsafe location.

- Comprehensive Repair: When you replace the cambelt, it's also a good time to replace other components connected to it, such as the water pump, tensioner, and idler pulleys. These components can wear out over time and are often accessed during cambelt replacement. Doing all these repairs together can save on labor costs and prevent future issues.

Preserve Resale Value: Regular maintenance, including cambelt replacement, can help maintain the resale value of your vehicle. Prospective buyers are often concerned about the maintenance history of a used vehicle, and having records of regular maintenance can make your vehicle more attractive to buyers.

- To ensure your vehicle's reliability and avoid expensive repairs, it's important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for cambelt replacement intervals and have the replacement performed by a qualified mechanic. Keep in mind that the specifics can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle, so always refer to your owner's manual or consult with a professional.
