Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV)
A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, also known as a plug-in or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), has both a battery and petrol or diesel engine and like other electric vehicles need to plug in to charge. Plug-in hybrids are perfect for long distances as you can switch between fuel and the battery, rather than having to stop off at a charging point along the way.
The larger capacity of the battery makes plug-in hybrids capable of emissions and can drive up to a range of 30 miles on the battery before switching to the petrol or diesel engine for longer journeys.
A plug-in hybrid is charged from an external electricity power supply along with regenerative braking selects and blends the engine and electric motor to give the finest performance and efficiency. PHEVs also have an inlet socket so they can be charged directly from an external electricity supply.
One benefit of driving a plug-in hybrid is that it allows you to manage your emissions. For the quick nips about town, these require less power so they can be completed on the battery alone. This will not only decrease your running costs but will also reduce your carbon footprint.
