The Stunning DB11 from Aston Martin
After months of speculation and spy shots that would have made James Bond proud, the Aston Martin DB11 has been officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Arguably the marques most significant model since the outgoing DB9 launched 13 years ago, the “most dynamically gifted” DB model in the company’s history, is expected to arrive in showrooms this year priced from £154,900.
While instantly recognisable from the front there are also signs that the brand is moving in a new design direction after a decade of similarly styled models. This differentiation was so vital during the design process that product development director Ian Minards commented: “Even [CEO] Andy Palmer’s mum had to be able to distinguish between each car.”
DB11 re-defines the relationship between form and function with a range of updated design signatures. Including the front-hinging clamshell bonnet, distinctive LED headlights and accentuated lines of the iconic Aston Martin grille, taking this luxurious car into the 21st century. The clean lines continue at the rear, with a sloping decklid that smoothly blends into boldly sculpted tail-lights to create a new and unmistakable graphic.
Like every Aston Martin, the heart of the DB11 is found beneath the bonnet, though unlike any Aston Martin before it, this one beats a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12. Designed in-house this new engine delivers 608PS (600BHP) and 700Nm of torque, making DB11 the most powerful production model ever.
Speaking at the launch Dr Palmer remarked: “This is not only the most important car that Aston Martin has launched in recent history, but also in its 103-year existence. The DB11 rightfully places Aston Martin once again as a leading brand in the luxury automotive market”.
What would James Bond make of it? It will no doubt leave the secret agent shaken and stirred.
